Limited Number of Onsite Registrations

Unfortunately for obvious reasons, there is a maximum number of onsite seats and consequently there is a limited number of onsite registrations. Currently, there is no limitation on the number of online registrations.

For this reason, the well-known “first come first serve” strategy will be adopted, so if you want to participate in presence, we recommend that you register as soon as possible

Similarly for the accommodation available at the Certosa di Pontignano, if you want to stay in the Conference Venue we recommend that you check in advance with the Certosa di Pontignano staff about the availability of accommodation.

New Lecturer: Prof. Christos Papadimitriou, Columbia University, USA

One of world’s leading computer science theorists, Christos Papadimitriou is best known for his work in computational complexity, helping to expand its methodology and reach. He has also explored other fields through what he calls the algorithmic lens, having contributed to biology and the theory of evolution, economics, and game theory (where he helped found the field of algorithmic game theory), artificial intelligence, robotics, networks and the Internet, and more recently the study of the brain.

He authored the widely used textbook Computational Complexity, as well as four others, and has written three novels, including the best-selling Logicomix and his latest,Independence. He considers himself fundamentally a teacher, having taught at UC Berkeley for the past 20 years, and before that at Harvard, MIT, the National Technical University of Athens, Stanford, and UC San Diego.

Papadimitriou has been awarded the Knuth Prize, IEEE’s John von Neumann Medal, the EATCS Award, the IEEE Computer Society Charles Babbage Award, and the Gödel Prize. He is a fellow of the Association for Computer Machinery and the National Academy of Engineering, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Athens Polytechnic in 1972. He has a MS in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from Princeton, received in 1974 and 1976, respectively.

ACAIN 2022 (as was done for ACAIN 2021): an Online & Onsite Event!

ACAIN 2022 will be in hybrid  form, both onsite and virtual (as was done for ACAIN 2021) as this is most beneficial for the ACAIN community.

The organizing committee of ACAIN 2022 has decided to run the conference on the scheduled dates (September 19-22, 2022), and to run it as a hybrid conference:

The Certosa di Pontignano (our conference venue) has enough space to obey the safety rules (put in place due to COVID-19). To accommodate a large number of participants, we are offering the option for either physical presence (onsite) or virtual participation (online). We would be delighted if all authors and participants manage to attend; however, we are aware that in the current special circumstances, it is best to hold the event in hybrid mode.

The Conference, will be held in person with virtual rooms  for authors and participants using a remote connection (Zoom). The lectures  (e.g., live presentations or recorded ones) will also be made available online. We will make sure that the sessions also run live, such that the presenters can show and explain their results, and the attendees can ask questions and interact with the presenters. The sessions will be held one at a time which will allow participants from overseas to attend as many sessions as possible.

The keynote lectures (of the Lecturers who will give their consent to the recording of the lessons)  will be recorded such that online participants can follow them either live or at any time they like to.

If the situation does not allow the event to take place in person, the event will instead be converted to a fully online mode.

Obviously, if ACAIN 2022 will be converted into a fully online event, participants who paid the onsite registration fee will be refunded the difference, and will thus only pay the online registration fee.

Finally, it is important to note that it is possible to change the mode of participation (the Registration):

from Onsite Registration to Online Registration and similarly

from Online Registration → to Onsite Registration

We are offering the possibility to change the mode of participation to ACAIN 2022. Those who register in one mode can easily change it by 19  August (one month before the conference starts).

  • It is possible to take Onsite Registration and then change it to Online Registration and get a corresponding refund, but this decision must be made by 19 August.
  • Similarly, you can do Online Registration and then upgrade to Onsite Registration and pay the difference (via PayPal); this decision must also be made by 19 August .

If you have any questions please write to the organizing committee:

See you (in-person or virtually – in 3D or in 2D 🙂 ) in  Tuscany in September!
